Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside!

Wish you were here | Seasdie Wedding Inspiration

Hello you lovely lot, I do hope all is well and good. The weekend saw me travelling up to the Yorkshire Coast for a spot of sun, sea and sand  – Great British style. Taking inspiration from the sights and sounds of the great seaside towns, it got me thinking… what a great theme for a wedding! This week we take a look at how you can bring the seaside shores to your wedding without a sack of builder’s sand in sight.

Beach Waves

Why is it after a day at the beach your hair starts to do amazing things? After all that sea, sand and trying to ‘surf’ it somehow dries into the most effortless tresses you’ve ever seen.  Recreate the look by curling your hair and then teasing out each curl with your fingers or a wide tooth comb, this stops you curls looking too ‘done’. Add a touch of bohemia by braiding small sections or wear in a loose fishtail plait to bring a touch of elegance to the ‘surfer girl’ look. Rock My Wedding have a fab post on how to create gorgeous boho waves that will stay in all day & night.

Fresh Face

It’s no secret, us girls have been rocking the ‘no makeup’ trend for years, giving the illusion of a more natural fresh faced look.  There’s something about the way you look after a sun/funfilled day at the seaside. A little windswept yes, but there’s a gorgeous nautral glow that lies behind that layer of sand. Minimal makeup is the key to  beach chic – think rosy cheeks, a sun kissed glow and soft pink lips to create a healthy, flawless finish.

Buckets of Flowers

Taking a walk along the cliffs at Flamborough I was amazed at the gorgeous wild flowers that adorned the cliff tops – bluebells, daisies and long grasses with pops of colour, it was beautiful. Create stunning centrepieces by displaying your wild flowers in glass jars wrapped with a little hessian or twine. You could even go a step further and use a traditional sand bucket as a vase. Keep the flowers mixed and varied in colour and size to recreate a wild look.

Sweet as Candy

Walking along the seafront you’d be forgiven in thinking you were experiencing a spot of the old deju vu. Candy Floss, donuts, rock, fudge, icecream  – all on repeat from the beach shacks and cafes. With the recent popularity of dessert tables, the seaside theme lends itself to a lavish sweet-toothed affair. Stacks of donuts,  a candy floss machine and an icream van stocked with your favourite flavours are guaranteed to bring a little sweet seaside nostalgia into your wedding day. You could even give your guests a little something sweet to take away, how about mini jars of rock as wedding favours?

Lots of laughs

For many being at the seaside will bring back fond happy memories, make sure your wedding is chockabock full of fun and laughter and recreate a few favourites. A carousel, bingo and a twist on the popular photo booth. No trip to the seaside would be complete without a slight gender swap in one of those seaside cut outs. No kids coming? don’t let that put you off, guaranteed no one will be able to resist a quick bash at the coconut shy.

Wish You Were Here

The postcard! The ultimate souvernir of happy seaside memories. There are so many ways you can incorporate it in your seaside wedding. Set the tone with the invitation and add little seaside or nautical touches to all your stationery. A postcard guest book is a great twist on the traditional. Collect vintage postcards for your guests to leave their well-wishing messages on, you could display them after the big day too.

Fish & Chips

Possibly the first thing you think of when you utter the words British Seaside. Whether you go for mini fish and chips canapes, a wedding breakfast or a full on chipshop van, your guests will be more than happy to tuck into this British Classic! Yum.

Light it Up

When the sun goes down the seaside really comes into it’s own. Mimic the vibrancy of the promenade by using string lights and light up props. Festoon lighting looks fabulous and creates a great atmosphere. Vowed and Amazed have an awesome selection of light up letters and signs. In fact do go and have a look at their entire prop collection it’s pretty fabulous! Pastel coloured bouncy castle anybody?

I lost count of the number of VW campers I saw zooming downing the costal roads so let’s face it, a camper is the must have way to transport you to your seaside inspired wedding day. Deck your camper out with ribbons and bunting and clamber aboard ready to arrive at your destination in true style. Our VW Campervan Dolly loves a good wedding and following her recent makeover she’s available to hire and ready to share your special day. Say hello to Dolly here!
