Wedding Inspiration Spots vs Stripes

spots and stripes wedding styling inspiration

Hello! We’ve got a bit of a battle here on the blog today.  Recently we’ve been seeing lots of bold patterns and statement prints creep into wedding styling, and I for one love it. Last year saw the rise of the Chevron and now, slowly taking it’s place, is the bold stripe oh and we mustn’t forget the humble polka dot. For 2016 we’re expecting to see a lot more of these bold patterns, especially in striking colours and monochrome. So without further ado, let the battle commence. Spots vs Stripes. What’s your style?

The Bride

You could start with the dress, but I’m thinking stripes might be a little overkill. Polka Dot on the other hand works really well, especially in a flirty 50s style. If you want to be a little more subtle, try adding a few little details to incorporate the pattern. I’m loving those little polka dot gloves!

 The Groom

It wouldn’t be fair for the groom not to get in on a little pattern action. You could also add a little matching pocket handkerchief  or even go for a patterned shirt instead. I do love a bow tie though and this one is a toughie, but those bold stripes are swinging it for me.

 The Bridesmaids

We’re still seeing lots mismatched bridesmaids and this year I think we’ll be seeing more pretty patterned dresses. It can be notoriously difficult to find dresses for your lovely ladies and perhaps polka dots would be more flexable, I’m loving the monochrome stripe idea though.

The Table

I love love love these table styling ideas. The pops of colour with bold stripes is just genius and the slight mix of patterns with the polka dots keep the look modern and fresh. You could go all out with patterned table runners or just add little details with napkins and stationery, both are really beautiful.

It’s a draw!

 The Decor

Even if you don’t go for the all out on the other patterned details, adding in touches of pattern around your venue is a great way to get the look. Polka Dot Poms Poms or a striped backdrop for a photo booth makes a statement but isn’t too in your face. I’m really loving how the bright paper flowers mixes with bold stripes.

 The Details

When planning your wedding, you will put so much effort into those little details, why not make them stand out! Whether it’s the favours or the chair backs little aspects of either pattern will tie the whole look together. Those striped chair tie backs are a really nice alternative to traditional chair covers.

 The Flowers

This is a really easy way to incorporate a little pattern into your wedding styling. Simply tying dotty or striped material around your bouquet looks so lovely and just look at that pop of colour standing out again! This one is really hard but maybe stripes just pips spots to the post?

 The Cake

Although I’m sure not simple to make, these wedding cake designs are just so stunning in their simplicity and monochrome colour palette. If you’re not fancying a big bold cake, you could go for an alternative like patterned cupcake liners or a patterned cake topper.

A Bit of Both

If you can’t decide, how about mixing the two?! Sounds crazy but it really works. I think the trick is to stay to a simple colour palette. Black, White and perhaps a hint of gold is a match made in patterned heaven!

So there we have it. Battle over. And the winner is… Stripes, for me anyway and it was a very close call. How about you, which is your winner? Spots, stripes, or both?
