I met Kelly and Ant at Jack Rabbits around Christmas 2011 during an event. A really good looking couple, the kind that makes you sigh and think that they are perfect for each other. Clearly they adored each other and were so great to work with during all the planning and the day itself.
They came to see me a few months later once they were ready to start making some firm and exciting plans for their wedding. Kelly had some really strong ideas about the style and theme of the day and those, together with the creative drive of her husband to be (and us of course) meant that their day was every bit what they wanted it to be. Relaxed, fun, afternoon tea and a party were all words that were used a lot during our meetings.
Ant is a musician and also the creative force behind Drawingsbyhersanmine -a bespoke drawing services outfit offering hand drawn framed pieces, greeting cards and digital imagery. Worth checking them out.
We set up and styled Shardlow Village Hall with the help of the couple and a big group of their lovely family and friends. We provided our classic afternoon tea for their guests which we served on our vintage china, naturally. They asked their guests to bake a cake for a Bake-Off which was judged by Kelly and Ant after the speeches had finished (great speeches and amazing cakes they were too!). Guests were greeted with Pimms in the sunshine and there was plenty of laughter and fun during the reception.
The flowers were beautifully done by Helen at The Flower Mill and hay bales were the perfect seating for the drinks reception.
Kelly looked drop dead gorgeous in a vintage slinky dress set off perfectly with a pair of brightly coloured heels. Her bridesmaids wore a perfect mix of sorbet shades, cute knee length dresses that suited all the beautiful girls to perfection.
I put them in touch with The Flying Ducks Catering Company who came along in their amazing caravan to feed everyone for the evening party and guests danced the night away to the small hours.
One of the highlights for me was seeing them arrive from church in their wedding car – they wheel-spun into the car park to much laughter and cheers from everyone. I know we have a VW Camper van which we hire for wedding transport, but their Citreon was definitely one of my favourite means of arriving in style this year. It suited them perfectly.

Good morning everyone. Just a quickie and a little bit of a lazy and cheeky post…
We styled a photoshoot along with Susie from Vintage Chic Wedding Fair at The Botanical Gardens last week and were more than a little in love with the amazing dressed supplied by Luxe Bridal. We are desperate to see the images, so whilst Liezl Croft works her magic on the photographs, we can post a link to her blog which has a few images from the day – Botanical Garden Shoot
We have met so many mutually supportive, friendly and talented wedding suppliers over recent months, none more so than Becky Butterworth of Butterworth Photography. She interviewed me for their blog, and you can click here to have a read. Interview with me.
A spreadsheet beckons…can’t put it off any longer. x
Here we are & another year is upon us; another grand gesture of resolutions made for 2012 – some will be broken before the end of the month I am sure (maybe it will just be too difficult to avoid Rioja & surely life is made sweeter by discount shopping on The Outnet), but there are a couple of Darby & Joan related promises I have made to myself that I am excited about keeping.
One of them is to try & write a blog post every couple of weeks. This may be too frequent for some of you to bear reading & may click on “hide post” or hit the delete button as soon as you see our name pop up, but others amongst you may have a spare few minutes to catch up with what has been happening with D&J, & for those of you I hope you enjoy looking at images of shoots we have styled & photos of events we have been involved with & maybe getting some ideas & inspiration for your event. Lastly I will always be name dropping fabulous photographers, stylists, event organisers, cake makers, venues, designers, suppliers & florists that you really can’t live without.
We have been so lucky over the past few months to have worked with such inspiring, helpful, talented & fun people & have been featured in quite a few wedding blogs which is something that we are really proud of for such a young company.
Rather than write a piece for each shoot, here are a few pics from some of them.
Happy New Year everyone. x
